Heroes if Might and Magic, one of the most epic games of all time. I never thought that a game could immerse me so thoroughly in a fantasy world, could grab my heart and soul and lift them higher. All ratings are from when the game was new, since rating it against current games like time shift, or gears of war, or any other game released into he past 5 years would just be pointless.
Something about the simple 2D world map, coupled with the intricately drawn and skins creates and heroes really just catches the eye.
Sure it doesn't have hundreds of thousands of pixels and Life-like detail like new games, but for the time, these graphics were leading edge. Every creature has its own skin, along with movement when it is hit, attacks, or moves. The main-map is beautifully made with mountains and trees and oceans, ponds, and just random stuff placed around the map to make it a little easier on the eyes.
The music is good and fun. All creates had special sounds for attacking and being attacked. Also, general environmental sounds on the main map were def a plus when playing.
Seriously the game play is amazing, epic, and top-of-the-line. A turn based game, on every turn you had so many options for what you could do. You could
move your hero (limited amount of movement points) and with that you could collect resources, capture mines, and fight enemies. You could build in your castle (one building a day), and you could recruit creatures and heroes form your castle as well (depending on what buildings you had).
The Battle system was based on a hex-grid where each creature could move a certain amount of spaces each turn. There were both Ranged (archers, and mages), and melee creatures. But it wasn't simple one-on-one fighting. No, some creatures (like the hydra) could attack 2 or even 3 enemies at once, Mages could cast spells, and dragons breath could incinerate a line of enemies. Strategies were a must, no simple point and click here.
I still play this game to relax and chill out. And it is seriously one of the games that have changed my life the most. Other games come and go, but the Heroes of might and Magic chronicles will always be good. You need downloading it and enjoy.
