This is a great game. The game play is amazing and it keeps you thinking the entire time. Unlike some simulation games where if you know the history you can easily win, this one forces you to be creative. I only wish I could have called a cease-fire on Christmas Eve. See the movie Joyeux noel. In December 1914, the Great War had entered its 5th month. Many of the soldiers on both sides had enlisted to fight a short and glamorous war.
It was well on its way to becoming one of the costliest wars in the history of humankind. By Christmas Eve it was obvious that there was not an end in sight. As a reaction to this, at various locations along the Western-Front there were truces declared. These random and spontaneous truces are one of the unheralded stories of the Great War. Board Game. The various setting that permit singe battles, campaigns or the entire war are great and very helpful. Another aspect that I enjoyed was that you could play some of the lesser-known battles or campaigns of the war. As a History Professor, this is a very good game. I am not saying that I would use it in my class, but for those of you who enjoy the "What if" question, this is a game for you. What is the Russians had not left the war? What if the Germans had not become bogged down? What if the Americans too a little longer to enter the war? The entire balance of power could have been shifted in Europe and the world. This game allows the player to do just that and so much more. Play as the Germans, the Allies or any individual detachment. Stop the advance in No-mans land, survive the Somme, just have fun with this one.
This is a fun and enjoyable game to play. The game-play was easy to learn and straightforward. I would give this game two thumb up and would encourage all who enjoy war simulation games to try this one.
