Game Review 1 (written by Myzerybox) Added on: 08/25/2006
Master of Magic is game much like Sid Meyers Civilization. The game sets you up as a master of your choice and you control the race of you choosing.
Graphics: The graphics aren’t exactly top notch but that is mostly because of the time it was made in. The graphics easily portray the characters and every character has its own sprite which goes along with the race and class of the unit.
Sound: Scary DOS noises however if you just shut your speakers off there is nothing for you to worry about and you can enjoy this great game while listening to whatever kind of music you like.

to sit down and listen to time and time again. However you will want to at least once sit down and watch the opening video to this game, its nothing spectacular but for some reason it’s the opening video that I can’t seem to forget.
Game-play: Every turn you move your units and begin construction on the next unit or building you wish to construct. You also choose what spells you want to learn and cast spells on your units, enemy units, or on the whole world map. The game proceeds in a turn by turn way by allowing you to move and then letting your opponents move. (Side note: If you have the patch for this game which I highly recommending getting the neutral units will also be able to move each turn. This makes the game much more difficult because you will have wondering monsters and raiders attacking you along with your enemies.)
Replay value: This game has an immense replay value because of the different difficulties, Masters, Races, Spell books, and maps. This game seems like a completely new game every time you start up a new game.
Final Judgment: Master of Magic is a great game that allows for many different ways to play. All the classes have different things about them that you need to learn in order to be able to defeat your opponents. The wide array of heroes for hire also adds to the strategy when mobilizing your troops. This is a game that has easily survived the tests of time and is still an awesome game even by today’s standards. If you can look past the iffy graphics and lovable DOS noises you will see that this is a game well worth playing.

Game Review 2 (written by Ncp20) Added on: 08/16/2006
Master of Magic is a must have classic in my book. Started playing it about 6 years ago I got hooked then and still am to this day. The graphics are poor but what do you expect from a game that came out in DOS. The way you build your civilization and all the extras from fighting mythical creatures this game has it all when it comes to strategy. It’s a lot like civilization in the means that you build your city from scratch then the whole point is to take on other civilizations. However the battlefield is much larger with many sub screens in which you battle, build your civilization, gain new spells (which you can pick from a series of different spells all requiring different magic power).
The spells that you can earn are just one of the many bonuses to this game. As you gain more cities to command your army, the easier it is to earn these spells, support your troops and so forth. If you’ve played masters of Orion and enjoyed it you’ll love master of magic. Also, as you abolish the mythical creatures in the bonus gnomes, you might gain new spells right away also you can earn money from doing it. The heroes from this game are fun to command too. They all have different skills such as fighting or magic and they are the backbone of your army. The more battles you win the stronger they get. Killing off your opponents in this game is enjoyable especially after you start earning better spells.
You can put spells on certain leaders of the race or you can just put there city in check with one magical spell. It’s a turn based game so sometimes a lot of it is just sitting there waiting for something great to be built, but when it comes, you know its time to wreak havoc. This game also has two different worlds in which you fight. Meaning that your project yourself onto another plain fighting different kinds of mythical creatures in the bonus gnomes. The starting battlefield is normal having water and grass for you to fight on and build your cities
The creatures in this area of the game are much harder to defeat then they are in the first battlefield on which you start. I cant count the many times I’ve gone into a dark gnome ready to fight any creature I have to face with my army as big as it gets, and still walk away with losing one of my best heroes.
That is just one of the many ways the game will you get to you and make you want to keep playing it.

VERY excellent game, and worth the download for all sim/strategy fans. But, like any good sim/strategy game, be prepared to invest hours into playing.

I wish like crazy that they would do a Windows adapted version of this game.

GREAT GAME - one of the best of all time. The two worlds, the massive number of spells, the units and buildings. Just beautiful. I saw it here and just HAD to have it. I rate it a "10" out of pure nostalgia.

Best game ever! I play MoM for years and I'm sure I will continue to, the playability is great, the interface simple. So great fun!

It's always been one of the most addictive games I've ever played. Thanks to Dosbox and this site, I've been playing MoM for five hours straight, and my younger brother is begging me over the phone to tell him how to mount it on his computer too. Such a great game. Great in general, but if you have a little smite-happy dictator hiding inside of you, it has no competition.
