Nuclear War 3: Ground Zero is a rehashed version of Nuclear War by New World Computing. It is fan made! It is a classic turn-based game focusing on dominating the world as quickly as possible. Obviously, as the title suggests, the weaponry used to accomplish this task is nuclear in nature.
There are five different leaders to choose from in this third installment. Upon choosing a leader, the player begins the game with four cities with varying population ranging from a mere city to a metropolis. By using nuclear technology, the player needs to destroy the opposing countries.
Granted, leaders can also use rudimentary propaganda techniques to undermine their rivals’ plans, but the main focus of this game is on all-out bombing.
Since NW 3 is a turn-based game, only one of five orders may be issued for each turn. This command gives direction to the cities. The user may order his or her country to spread propaganda in neighboring cities, build more weapons to add to those in storage, prepare a bomber or a missile for launch, actually attack using the warheads that have been created, or skip the turn. As mentioned above, players only start out with a set number of various warheads. It is up to the leader to strategize and wisely use the turns to build more weapons for
the campaign.
NW 3 also employs many different characters, complete with a sense of humor. Some of the characters a gamer must face include Godzilla, George W. Bush, and even the creators of the game itself. There are random events that can be turned on and off by the user to increase surprises, difficulty levels and reliability. If the AI players do not pose a serious enough threat for the die-hard gamer, players may choose to face other human opponents over the internet. Nuclear War 3 also contains a character editor so players can build their own avatars if they are displeased with the standards they are offered. So don’t think that this fan made sequel is simply a rerun of its predecessor. While it holds many of the same elements as Nuclear War 1 and 2, they are enjoyable elements with added perks to boot.
All in all this game is wonderful and enjoyable one! If you don’t play it I highly recommend do it! It’s worth it!
