While Maxis ruled the world of Sim games, there were many other games produced on the side that got little or no attention such as A-train, El Fish, and this little gem - ROBOSPORT! Hailed as the "Thinking Man's Shoot 'Em Up!" Robosport rewrote the world of turn based battle games. Combining one part Chess strategy, one part computer programming, and one part sheer dumb luck, this game made blowing stuff up a rewarding experience. Straight from the beginning intro, you know that this game is by no means meant to be taken seriously, but after learning the tools and the strategies you'll probably become a little more serious than Edward "Kill'em" Kilham ever intended.
With a moderate learning curve, this game isn't going to be as easy to pick up and go to like WarCraft, but nonetheless you'll be able to enjoy this one for a long time. If you have a few hours to burn, pick this one up. With most battles lasting less than 5 minutes, you just might replace your hourly 15 minute solitaire session with a little Rocket Launcher Mayhem. Bored still? Try modifying things where you're taking on three teams of blood thirsty grenade toting robots when all you have is a couple automatics. ante a little bit. Yeah, the stages you can choose to play in are limited, but I'll be honest, nothing beats a good old brawl in the suburbs. The AI in this one ranges from "crippled Grandma" to "WTF, mate!" and the pre-sets are pretty well rounded. Personally I love the smoke trails of the rocket launchers so I love to go for the Rocket Launcher set up in a large playing field. Bored playing the computer, fire it up in a "hot seat" competition with your cubicle mate. Sorry to say, though, that this game made back in the days of Windows 3.1, so it doesn't support multiplayer unless of course you can remember the AT& modem call sign of your modem. Can't do it? That's what I thought. Just remember, move, scan, move and scan. Oh, and duck from time to time. Who ever thought screaming robots would ever be arousing? Oh, by the way, don't worry about the "switch to 256 colors" screen. It's BS. Enjoy!
