For those looking to play this game, you have probably already played Dune 2. For those who haven't, Dune 2 was the original real-time strategy game, which was later made popular with the Command and Conquer, Warcraft, Starcraft, and other series. The game Dune 2 was remade in 2000 under Dune 2000 which added the features people have gotten accustomed to in C&C and other games of forming groups and controlling more units at a time. However, the need to control every unit by itself in Dune 2 really adds to the franticness and effort to optimize your strategy by micromanaging.
Super Dune 2 was released 2 years after the original Dune 2 by avid fans. The customization altered the 3 playable houses to Fremen, Mercenary, and Sardaukar. This game is slightly more difficult than the original, since the specials have been altered as well. Players no longer enjoy the lethal ability of the Sonic Tank or Devastator or the Deviator. If you're a fan of the original Dune 2, have played all 3 original houses and are looking for a new twist, then Super Dune 2 is definitely the game for you.
The game play, music, and everything else is unchanged from the origianl Dune 2. The main units are all the same, the key differences will come into play when you reach the
end-game and really need to use the special units of each house to take advantage of the field.
I disliked Dune 2000, so look to Super Dune 2 for the little added novelty that brings you back to the game. Dune 2000 removed the rocket launcher that was a favorite unit of mine. Due to the inaccurate nature of the rocket launcher in the original Dune 2, it allowed for a sense of realism. Also, this provided the perfect weapon against rocket turrets, where one would position rocket launcher units just out of range of the turret and aim right in front of the turret. The rockets would inevitably start hitting the nearby turret and damage it, while keeping your units safely out of range. Also, the Carry-all in Dune 2 works with much greater autonomy, than in Dune 2000. Buying additional Carry-alls via the Starport in Dune 2 allows for a fleet of Carry-alls that not only automate harvesting, but also will aid in transporting units to the repair docks.
