Uprising is a wonderful combination of strategy and simulation. You play as a commander in a tank who is able to deploy farces to his location. As you gain more territory you are also able to deploy turrets to defend your outposts or citadel. Your citadel is your main base, which has its own powerful turret you can control yourself should the need arise. With laser batteries or surface to air missile launchers to hold down the fort, you are able to assault enemy positions with the assistance of infantry, tanks, aircraft and bomber strikes.
Each technology has a tech level up to 5, with each level being more powerful than the last. After each mission you are awarded tech points that you can use to purchase a higher tech level in whatever field you like, making you able to tailor your forces to what you like to use. Your own tank is also customizable, able to strengthen the chassis or purchase new weapon systems for your destructive self.
While the game looked good for the most part by its day standards, its graphics do look dated. There is also the problem of getting stuck on certain missions if you don't have a good mix of troops, for instance if you put all your points into aircraft
and the mission is covered in surface to air missile turrets. And then there are the times your pals will get stuck on hills and the AI path finding isn't the best.
I had originally discounted Uprising, but a friend urged me to buy it to play with him. Once I got it, I was quickly impressed at its flawless mix of strategy and action. Oh yes I forgot to mention it has multi-player support! If this game does entertain you, then I strongly suggest finding a friend to play against, its easiest one of my favorite multi-player games of all time.
I strongly urge people to try this game, as it is one of my all time favorites. The mix of action and strategy will keep both strategists and action junkies hooked for a while. I still play this game to this day, even thou it is at least 10 years old if not older.
