Have you ever wondered what it will be like to create you own war zone? To choose the units, each side has and to lay out the battlefield is outstanding. No need to dream on. Now better looking enhanced interface and nice sounds, the war game construction set 2: Tanks! Is here.
War game construction set 2: Tanks! Is now the 2nd game in its series, featuring new better looking units (now including a huge range of devastating armored vehicles and tanks), and this game will surely be a part of your war collection.
Unlike its predecessor, War game construction set, this brilliant game beats it 100 times over. The graphics on each unit is rather surprisingly OK for its time and genre, too be honest I personally think all the unit graphics could do with a make over but other than that, its good. The sounds on the game are Ok too. Its good quality, not all “fuzzy” and poor so it does in fact match with the game.
In the menu, you are given a few options – Map editor, Play and exit. In the map editor you can of course create your own map basically. You are given a default map which you can then modify to your own leisure. The map editor interface

and options are easy to use and access as you can probably create a nice small battlefield within 10 minutes. In the map editor you can also modify and change the units that the 2 opposing sides have. You can literally fully customize each unit – its name, strength, speed etc. And also select how many units each side has. So you can mainly create your own “fantasy” battle. I created a small tank battle in which I played as the Germans, against the Russians. The map was fairly small and basic so the battle I had with the AI was pretty impressive (considering the Russians beat only because I gave them more tanks than me). When you feel like playing your map or a custom map that the developers have kindly created, you press the play option which you can then select whether the game will be played by 1 player or 2 players.
I downloaded this game onto my laptop and brought it with me on holidays and that. And this game sure knows how to pass the time for you.
I must say that the only minor downside of this game is that if you do not know what type of battle you want to create you are kind of stuck. Even though there are a fair few pre-made missions you will scratch your head for ideas. All in all I do recommend this game to anyone who likes to play god (in a way) and who has time and patience. This game is for you wannabe generals.
