Game Review (written by Mfitz1970) Added on: 12/30/2006
This is a very cool wargame, I played it when it was first released in my opinion it ranks right up there with titles such as SSG's Carriers at War & SSI's: Carrier Strike these are also 2 very strong pacific wargame titles that deserve merit. But QQP's title offered much more flexibility and fun it is in my opinion the best of the 3.
Good AI, excellent combat features and sound effects. The fact that you play ever combat of the south pacific theater is a good strong point.

Good AI, excellent combat features and sound effects. The fact that you play ever combat of the south pacific theater is a good strong point. I think if QQP had stayed in business it might have released a full blown Pacific Wargame which covered all areas of the Pacific History. To date no game has come close to this titles flexibility,

the ability to choose what ships your aircaft attack. And what ships attack which was a very cool feature which made the game much stronger on the combat side.
For its time the graphics were good, today of course we'd think them weak but if someone were to re-release this title with all its rich combat features and updated graphics it would surely out match even titles like Matrix's Games Pacific War. This game is good but way too much needed to be controlled unlike with QQP's title which was very easy to handled Matrix's title was way too much trouble when it came down to what you really got to do. It was too time intensive.
To be frank QQP made a winner when this title was released and it even in my opinion out matched its other navel games. So if I have to rank this title on its abilities. Then here's how I rank it:
Graphics: In the day 8 of course today it would be more like 4
Gameplay: 9 don't think it would change.
AI: When played at the max can be nasty, the hotseat feature is more fun, give it a 10
Sound: I'll give it 8 in today’s market it would rank 3
Over All it gets a rank of 8.75

A lost classic. Only three features would have improved it: (a) control over search vectors (as in SSI's Carrier Strike) (b) the ability to combine planes in one strike (ditto) (c) the ability of strikes to push through CAP and hit the target even with high losses (consider that Hiryu's strikes made it through to Yorktown despite about 50% losses). I, and many other players, wish someone could get hold of the source code for this game, update the sound and graphics, and put it into Windows format. I'd shell out $40-$60 for it even with only those changes.
