I first played this game when I was about 9 and me and my brother loved it, This was a game I would spend hours playing and annoy the whole family by hogging the PC. I have always been into strategy games but this got me hooked.
The game is basically aliens attacking earth and you command the X-COM, an extraterrestrial combat unit. Its turn based game so you have to be quite wise with your moves as you don't know what’s around the corner.

The game is basically aliens attacking earth and you command the X-COM, an extraterrestrial combat unit. Its turn based game so you have to be quite wise with your moves as you don't know what’s around the corner. The game takes place from two different views, The Geoscape and the Battlescape. Geoscape is a global view of earth from here the player can view the x-com bases. This allows you to order supplies, equip x-com craft, research, sell alien artifacts and
manufacture advanced equipment. The battlescape is where the action is! This is the fighting ground between the alien and human forces. Your goal is to kill all the enemy units you are given a score based on performance units lost, killed, civilians saved artifacts found etc. One thing I loved about this game more than most as there was so much you could do, this was the first game that I can remember where you could change equipment on your team members a feature which is so common on games such as Socom and Battlefield.
I think I must have spent hours playing around with different weapon and grenade combo's. The Aliens were very tough and take a beating before going down which is a good thing because this game is not easy. You really have to get your tactics right and move slowly. Don't expect to role in there and walk all over them. The characters can fully interact with the terrain and can even duck behind cover and will leave signs of previous fighting burn marks etc, a first as far as I remember. Another feature I think was a first was that you could even chose firing style, for example you could take one well aimed shot or a burst of 3 to suppress the enemy. As far a this being an un-heard of classic, this is a must, and a great example of a game made back in the day when gameplay was important as the graphics couldn't astonish the player into thinking a great looking game was great to play.
